Sugawara Haruko has devoted herself to making jewelry over the last 30 plus years. Her unique line of jewelry is a result of her original concepts and techniques using pure silver wires. She weaves very thin silver wires into nets, and applies cloisonn? over them. She then uses heat to finish. She also uses, in some of her work, silver clay, which has recently been developed using innovative technology, and gold wires, as well as nylon threads. Her concepts go against the general images and perceptions of metal, which is often characterized as hard and cold. Metal also has the molecule structure to block light. Sugawara Haruko, however, changes those images by creating delicate and flowing designs that resemble fabric-like texture with her materials. The coldness of silver is exhilarated by adding translucent colors to it. The harmony between sharp designs and gentle impressions has won Sugawara Haruko numerous awards at craft shows and jewelry exhibitions throughout Japan. Her work has also been introduced and exhibited in Finland, Sweden, Australia, as well as in England.
