MIURA KAGEO, who is considered by many to be the God-father of contemporary rozome, has trained many of Japan's leading rozome artists and teachers. Early in his career, his intriguing blend of realism and abstraction pushed beyond the conventional boundaries of textile design and established a broad horizon of possibility for subsequent generations of rozome artists. At the age of 88, he continues to challenge himself with his experimentations in reproducing his subtle textile designs in ceramic. He is currently a Professor Emeritus at Kyoto City University of Arts and a Senior Counselor for Nitten, the annual official exhibitions that recognize masterworks of Japanese art and craft.
