Hiroko Matsumoto lives in Kanazawa-city in Japan, and is a self-claimed ailurophile. Her passion for cats is well recognized by many. She would spend hours watching them, while they slept, wondering what would be like to dress them up in kimonos. In 1986, those innocent moments gave her the inspiration to start making cat-figurines. Her clay-cats are adorable, and their expressions are full of life. Those are indeed the products of her true love for those creatures. Hiroko Matsumoto expresses her originality by creating situations and scenes from Japanese traditions and culture. Those cats in Japanese traditional kimonos can bring smile to anyone, cat-lovers or not. While busy traveling all around Japan for different exhibitions, Hiroko Matsumoto also writes essays for newspaper columns.
