Hiroko Leefs work portrays the ephemeral quality of nature and her connection to Japanese culture.

gMy images tend to be somewhat elusive, because I believe everything in nature is constantly in the process of being born and disappearing. I believe in intuitive and spontaneous approaches to making art, which gives a sense of naturefs capriciousness.h

Hiroko utilizes kimono images to represent the history of Japanese women and the rediscover of her traditional culture. Her work incorporates mixed media, including the age-old technique of Japanese woodcutting as well as collograph, monotype and drypoint.

Hiroko Leefs work is a part of numerous private and public collections including the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Harvard Law School and Wellington Management. In the last two years, she has received the Boston Printmakers Award, The Francis Roddy Competition Award from the Concord Art Association,@ gBest of Showh from the Brockton Art Museum and gBest of Showh from the Cambridge Art Association.

Hiroko Lee is a graduate of Tsuda College in Japan, and holds an MFA from Bridgewater State College, and a 5th year certificate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Hiroko was born in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to the United States at the age of 24. She has resided in Massachusetts for the last 40 years.
